Thank you to everyone who attended and supported the 2015 San Antonio 110 9/11 Memorial Climb. This year was once again a great success and repeatedly accounted by participants as our best year yet. We look forward to many years to come and every year creating an even better tribute for our fallen and for our brotherhood. The main reason we mark this success is the reason we do this at all: Once again all 343 of our fallen firefighters were paid tribute to and their name and photo carried in honor of them. In addition 70 fallen Law Enforcement and 9 EMS personnel were paid tribute to as well. We were again truly one brotherhood under one cause once again and paid a tribute worthy of respect for our fallen heroes. That is thanks to all of you who participated and supported this effort. May we never forget why we do this, why we sweat and remember and pay tribute, for those who gave their life on 9/11 in the dedication, courage, and integrity exemplified by these men and women of our profession. May we always remember these brothers and sisters who we know not as mere names and faces but by the bond of brotherhood and their sacrifice. May we never forget them. Thank you for being a part of this solemn memorial and for your tribute to our fallen of 9/11.
As one we succeed in a little but as one made of many we succeed in a lot. We find the truth of this each year we do this memorial event. It is humbling and awe-inspiring to be witness to what a force we have become in our dedication to this common goal and our desire and love of our brethren we pay tribute to. I am honored to be even a small part of that. We thank you all for your unwavering support and dedication to this cause and allowing us to facilitate this tribute for all of you, and most of all, for our fallen. The San Antonio 110 9/11 Memorial Climb would like to once again thank everyone who supported it's efforts this year. It was such an amazing year of tribute. This year's SA110 had over 70 different agencies represented for this cause. Each and every one of you should be very proud of the great respect and tribute paid to our fallen, these heroes who exemplified the integrity and courage of our profession, these brothers and sisters we promised to never forget for it. The SA110 is non-monetary-goal based event. Which means our only true goal and sole purpose is to provide our one cause, the tribute itself. This year, as the last two years, we once again received enough funds to pay our expenses, put our initial early budgeted funds into our account for next year's start up, and still have enough left over to donate to a chosen beneficiary. This is astounding! It was a touch-and-go year this year with donations but in the end we were able to do this thanks to everyone who donated and all of the awesome businesses and organizations who supported us. On October 14th we presented Texas Burn Survivor Society with a proceed check for $8,361.98! Thank you to everyone who helped make this happen for this great local organization. Until next year, Thank you once again and stay safe, Your San Antonio 110 9/11 Memorial Climb Committee

A couple more important things of note: • THIS IS NOT A RACE. Nor competitive. We have heard mention of a few people misunderstanding and setting goals to race to the top. Racing is not allowed nor will be permitted. This is a Memorial with time stamps of remembrance for pause in climb for all to adhere to. Anyone caught racing will be dismissed from the climb. We are also a non-competitive event and will not tolerate competitive behavior disrespecting any climbers participation in this climb. Please respect why we are here. (For anyone interested in racing please check out the CFF Tower Climb held in February) • All civilians must begin first climb in civilian group. Due to the high number of first responders we have participating we need to ensure precedence to first responders carrying tags for our fallen so they have time to complete their tribute. As always the order of entrance will be firefighters, law enforcement, EMS, military, then civilian. Spouses will need to climb in appropriate category for first climb entrance. (Don’t worry, many friends and family have become friends and team mates over the years this way and form a great group of comradery. You may meet up with your spouse or partner after the first climb if you wish.) • Please be respectful of firefighters during their climb. What this climb represents is something very personal and heartfelt for all first responders, and fire personnel most of all. The importance of what they are all doing for their fallen brethren is a solemn memorial and tribute. In the past we have often had other climbers, obviously with good intent and heart, a bit overzealous in their attempts to encourage or interact with firefighters during their climb. A first responder sitting or paused may not be in need of your help as much as they are having a personal moment in which we all must respect. Although the show of support is, of course, so greatly appreciated we ask that you please respect being a part of something so personal and revered by these men and women and allow them this during their climb. Please understand that for those in gear sweating and being tired is part of the deal for these first responders and part of their tribute they want to pay for their fallen brethren. Volunteers will be posted throughout the tower should you feel someone is in need of assistance. We ask that you also please refrain from loud voices, singing, or behavior while in the stairwells and follow the moments of silence reserved as time stamps during the climb. Lastly, please bring a dept/agency patch to add to our Patch Boards if we do not have one already. Please give to check-in table personnel. We currently have: SA Park Police, TABC, Shavano Park FD, Del Rio Police, Bexar Co Constable, Terrell Hills PD, UTSA PD, District 2 Fire Rescue, Del Rio FD, Uvalde FD, Jarrett FD, Grey Forest FD, Riviera Beach FD, Poteet FD, Terrell Hills FD, Leon Valley FD, Lytle FD, Bexar Co Fire Marshall, Austin FD, San Antonio FD, Houston FD, Bexar Co Sheriffs Office, Bexar Adult Probation, Community EMS, Castroville FD, Victoria FD, Houston fire station 40, New Braunfels FD, Helotes FD, Windcrest FD Please stay for the ending ceremony where we will have a traditional honor bell ceremony for our fallen, an honored respect for our fallen. On October 19th, 2014 The directors of the San Antonio 110 presented Burned Out Survivors' Fund with an event proceed check of $9,772.12. We also donated a $250 check to The Association Of Memorial Stairclimbs and kept over $1000 in the account for the 2015 start up expenses. We are humbled by the fact that we were not only able to pay for this years event but have this exceeding amount from a free event, all by the optional and gracious donations of others.
We again thank you all for your outstanding support and look forward to seeing you on 9/11/2015 at the Tower Of Americas to pay tribute once again to our fallen. (I typed this once but obviously it did not post, so my apologies!)
2014 San Antonio 110 9/11 Memorial Climb was a mission accomplished. We sold out initially as although we didnt quite achieve our expected 911 participants at the event all tags were carried. We had approximately 500 first responders participate and OVER 50 different agencies/departments were registered. Above all that, the most important number of all: 343 fallen firefighters were honored and paid tribute to. Mission accomplished and accomplished well. In addition, 72 fallen law enforcement officers were paid tribute to as well including one of SA110's participants last year, Officer Bobby Deckard. As I said before we are blessed to have so very many people to thank for helping this event take place this year. I know you didnt do it for the the Thanks and thats all the more reason we appreciate you. The list is so wonderfully long it was impossible for us to announce each and every one of you yesterday so we all did our best to personally thank each of you in person as we were setting up (I myself was so honored to have shook so many hands and seen so many of you face to face to do so. It was amazing). We will do our best to reach out over the next week through posts here and official announcements on the website, emails, and letters, to reach every single one of you. As is now evident by all, our event took a very unexpected turn and at the very last minute. It was a time in which tough decisions had to be made and a lot of unseen work behind the scenes took place. There was a strong chance that this event would be cancelled. Your SA110 committee worked through many No's and many obstacles without anyone knowing and I have the greatest amount of respect for them all in that. We knew that there was no way we were going to cancel until every single avenue, solution, and idea was exhausted. And I know that if we didnt have the strength of such an amazing committee and support from so many amazing people, it would have. But determination and dedication from so many pulled through and we were honored to have been able to ultimately announce that our climb and our tribute was secured. We went from "Its worth a shot" and "Its gonna take a miracle but lets try" to... "YES! Lets do this!" (I myself send the highest respect to this committee for making it through those last few days and event day. I am truly honored to stand beside these men and women.) Thank you all for being a part of this event, this cause, and above all the success of tribute for our 343. Every person involved and there yesterday should be very proud of what we all did. Much love to the brotherhood, our fallen, and all of you for believing in us. We are very excited to announce that we filled all 911 tickets this year!
If you weren't able to get one this time we look forward to seeing you next year! Thank you all for your amazing support! We are very happy to announce that our sponsor organization, The Bernie Grace Foundation, has received its 501(c)3 tax exempt status and all donations are considered tax deductible charitable contributions to this organization. We thank you all for your patience while we underwent this transition!
Registration is just a few days away! We are all working hard and very excited about this years' event!
As you can see we have a new beneficiary for this year. It is our rule to change beneficiaries each consecutive year. This year we have chosen another great local organization Burned Out Survivors' Fund. Please visit our beneficiary page for more information on this great organization. Also, same as last year, registration for the event is free. Based on last years expenses we are hoping though for an average of $20 donation per person to help cover costs. There will be a donation option during your online registration process. Keep checking back to this website for updates and information and we look forward to seeing you all very soon! We are proud to announce that San Antonio 110 9/11 Memorial Climb is now officially an event of The Bernie Grace Foundation. The Bernie Grace Foundation was recently established with the primary purpose of assisting local groups, organizations, and events of the highest ethical standards, such as ourselves, to reach their goals. We are proud to be linked with this organization and look forward to our growth together. You may learn more about The Bernie Grace Foundation at: www.BernieGraceFoundation.org. Federal 501(c)3 status is underway which means we are that much closer to another goal. We appreciate your patience while we undergo this transition and look forward to providing you with many more benefits in the near future.
Thank you all for your continued support and we look forward to seeing you soon. The San Antonio 110 9/11 Memorial Climb Committee |
