(I typed this once but obviously it did not post, so my apologies!)
2014 San Antonio 110 9/11 Memorial Climb was a mission accomplished. We sold out initially as although we didnt quite achieve our expected 911 participants at the event all tags were carried. We had approximately 500 first responders participate and OVER 50 different agencies/departments were registered. Above all that, the most important number of all: 343 fallen firefighters were honored and paid tribute to. Mission accomplished and accomplished well. In addition, 72 fallen law enforcement officers were paid tribute to as well including one of SA110's participants last year, Officer Bobby Deckard. As I said before we are blessed to have so very many people to thank for helping this event take place this year. I know you didnt do it for the the Thanks and thats all the more reason we appreciate you. The list is so wonderfully long it was impossible for us to announce each and every one of you yesterday so we all did our best to personally thank each of you in person as we were setting up (I myself was so honored to have shook so many hands and seen so many of you face to face to do so. It was amazing). We will do our best to reach out over the next week through posts here and official announcements on the website, emails, and letters, to reach every single one of you. As is now evident by all, our event took a very unexpected turn and at the very last minute. It was a time in which tough decisions had to be made and a lot of unseen work behind the scenes took place. There was a strong chance that this event would be cancelled. Your SA110 committee worked through many No's and many obstacles without anyone knowing and I have the greatest amount of respect for them all in that. We knew that there was no way we were going to cancel until every single avenue, solution, and idea was exhausted. And I know that if we didnt have the strength of such an amazing committee and support from so many amazing people, it would have. But determination and dedication from so many pulled through and we were honored to have been able to ultimately announce that our climb and our tribute was secured. We went from "Its worth a shot" and "Its gonna take a miracle but lets try" to... "YES! Lets do this!" (I myself send the highest respect to this committee for making it through those last few days and event day. I am truly honored to stand beside these men and women.) Thank you all for being a part of this event, this cause, and above all the success of tribute for our 343. Every person involved and there yesterday should be very proud of what we all did. Much love to the brotherhood, our fallen, and all of you for believing in us.
